A future together

Writing from Watertown, George tells Ruth that his mother is doing better. Everyday details of care and railway travel give way to an intimate hope: that the life they are about to share will make her happy.

I have missed you darling and thought of you many times every day.

My Dear Ruth:-

I didn't miss my train Monday morning and I arrived here at 2:30 P.M. and found mother much better in many ways than I had expected.

She is still able to help herself a great deal and can walk some by the aid of a crutch. Her limb pains her some at times but not all of the time. Have been with her most of the time and have been looking after her business for her.

You know how sick persons are, want one thing one moment and another the next.

My cousin is here with her

  • A possible recognizer-added explanatory note was separated from the editable draft. The complete model output is retained below. Compare with the image and restore the note if it is actually printed in the source.
  • Handwriting or annotations: spelling, dates, names, and omissions require visual checking. Fluent-looking text can still be wrong.
  • Letter continues on the following source page. Wording preserved; paragraph breaks and line-end hyphenation were regularized for reading.

PDF page numbers refer to positions in the 260-page scan, not printed folio numbers. Source readings are not automatically family-approved.
